On Monday, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal is scheduled to go through his fourth floor exam since being appointed in December 2022.

In a letter to the Federal Parliament Secretariat, the prime minister proposed that the House of Representatives’ vote of confidence be included in the agenda for the day’s activity. As per Article 100 (2) of the Constitution, the prime minister should table a motion in the lower House for a vote of confidence within 30 days if a political party in a coalition government withdraws its support to the prime minister.

Prime Minister Dahal is seeking the vote of confidence of the House after the Upendra Yadav-led Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal on May 13 withdrew its support for the government following a split in the party.Dahal needs the support of at least 138 lawmakers to prove that he commands a majority in the House of Representatives.

Earlier on March 13, Prime Minister Dahal won his third consecutive vote of confidence. After severing his year-long partnership with the Nepali Congress and forging a partnership with another major party, the CPN-UML, Dahal sought a vote of confidence and secured a majority. However, his support notably declined. In January 2023, he obtained 268 votes, followed by 172 in March of the same year. His support further dwindled to just 157 votes in the third floor test.
